Porto Tronchetto, Venice

The central part of Venice is connected to the mainland by a three-kilometer dam, along which a road and railway are laid. These highways end at the island of San Geremia, where the Santa Lucia railway station (Stazione di Venezia Santa Lucia) is located, and on the island of Tronchetto, where there is a parking lot. Further along Venice, you can only travel by water transport or on foot. The artificial island of Tronchetto (Isola Nuovo del Trancheto, "new island"), was built specifically as a port where guests of Venice leave their cars and buses and go to the city center on numerous vessels of various types and sizes.
