'Street of walls' Via Sopra le Mura, Sorrento
After passing through the gate of Porta di Marina Grande, I climbed to the observation deck (map) and looked again at cozy harbor.
I never go back the same way that I came, so I headed towards the center not along Marina Grande street, but turned into a long narrow corridor, clamped by high walls of tuff blocks.
The name of the street "Sopra le Mura" literally translates as "along the walls" and it is fully justified.
The endless wall is interrupted only by a couple of houses, but they face the street almost deaf walls. This "castle" guest house "Chalet Lidia".
About half way you can see the stone artifact - roadside column, it is not known how got here.
The second house is 200 metres away. The length of the entire street about 300 meters.
And again, an infinite wall, but lower. However, the height is more than compensated by impassable and impenetrable olive crowns.
Street of stone walls rests on Via Furo.
Here the same wall surrounds a small Park with a three-storey mansion in a classic style, where the Artis Domus Relais.
The Villa houses the hotel Artis Domus Relais, and under the trees in the Park the tables of the restaurant Artis Domus Garden.
Opposite the hotel is the Church of the Annunciation (Chiesa della SS. Annunziata map), one of the oldest in Sorrento. The Church was built in 1133 on the foundations of the Roman temple of Cybele, the mother of all gods.
